Growing Sweet Potatoes as a Survival Crop

Here is how to grow sweet potatoes.

If you do not have stems to take cuttings from, plant a few store bought sweet potatoes in some soil just under the surface on their sides. Vines will emerge in a few weeks. You can break these off and plant them.

Plant sweet potato cuttings that are 8-12″ long in loose soil with some organic matter. They do not like too much nitrogen. Plant in full sun. In a few months, vines will be everywhere. Look for the thick parts of vines where you originally planted and check for potatoes. Mulching is good during growth but not required.
